To Look or Not to Look?
Waiting can feel like the hardest part of applying to medical school. Fortunately, or unfortunately, you can turn to websites to get
up-to-the-minute information.
StudentDoctorNetwork lets you know when a school begins sending out invitations. CycleTrack tells you how many invitations have gone out to date and how that compares to previous years. Checking the data for all the schools you
applied to could take a considerable amount of time!
Sometimes students check this information for practical reasons, but often it's prompted by nerves. Understandable. But does checking the information really make you feel any better? Or does it satisfy curiosity momentarily, but actually feed your anxiety in the long run?
If you feel compelled to look again and again, it's probably the latter.
Ultimately, the data is never going to give you the information you are really looking for: Will I get an interview? Will I be accepted into medical school?
And where?
For that, all you can do is cultivate one of the toughest attributes there is: patience. Help yourself along by using proven methods to reduce the stress that
makes patience so challenging: Exercise. Get out into nature - a city park works just fine. Do deep, diaphragmatic breathing. Spend time with favorite friends
or hobbies.
The answers you await will come to you, soon enough.
